Bonaparte's GullPosted by Lars Justinen (Quatsino, Canada) on 31 August 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. At this time of year Quatsino Sound is full of migrating Bonaparte's Gulls. At other times of the year they have completely black heads but that during the late summer the heads are white except for a grey spot behind their eye. They are about half the size of the more common herring gull. They are graceful flyers and flitter about right now catching small silver fish on the surface of the water. Photographed this guy this morning while fishing for coho salmon. I have been so busy late this summer with projects, but I will try to get back to making daily entries on this photoblog again.
